This was my first trip to Calico and other than the comradery and trail run, I was not that impressed. Guess I'm not well suited to the desert. I definitely prefer mountainous areas with trees, creeks, lakes, etc. I can usually find a way to stay warm but in the desert, I was just uncomfortable.

Think I'll save up for the next trip to the Kern River or Big Bear. That sounds more like my cup of tea.

Okay, enough whining. I do want to say the folks I met are awesome people. No one hesitates to help you out if you need it and I definitely needed it when I got high-centered on top of a hill. A special thanks to a guy named Luke who sliced his finger open pushing my rig over the edge of that hill!

No matter what the trail conditions are like, you can always count on meeting decent folks. Something about a Jeep seems to bring out the best in people.
